Hi, I’m David. I’m an osteopath and soft tissue therapist, and I took a fairly unconventional route into this work.

I spent 17 years in mechanical engineering before deciding I wanted a career that lined up better with my interest in health and movement. So I retrained. Five years of study at the University College of Osteopathy later, I’m now qualified and registered with the General Osteopathic Council. Along the way I trained in soft tissue therapy at the North London School of Sports Massage, and I now teach on their Level 5 course.

That combination shapes how I work. Osteopathy gives me a way of assessing the whole person, how you load, move and compensate, rather than just the area that hurts. My soft tissue background gives me a detailed set of manual techniques to change what I find. And the engineer in me still wants to understand why a problem started in the first place.

In clinic I see a real mix of people. Some are professional athletes, plenty are not, and most simply want to get back to the things they enjoy without pain getting in the way. Treatment is built around you, usually a blend of joint articulation, soft tissue and myofascial work, trigger point therapy and movement, backed up with rehab that fits into your actual week rather than an ideal one.

I have a particular interest in jaw and TMJ related pain. Tension through the jaw and surrounding muscles often gets overlooked, and it tends to respond really well to targeted treatment. Seeing someone eat, talk and sleep comfortably again is one of the more satisfying parts of the job.

I’ve worked alongside Wycombe Wanderers FC, GB Softball and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC, and I currently work with the Scottish Women’s National Team. That side of things has taught me a lot about injury prevention and getting people back to performing. Whether you’re competing or just starting out, you’ll get the same attention either way.

You’ll find me at Red Lion House in High Wycombe. When I’m not in clinic, I’m usually at my local CrossFit box or working my way through the coffee menu down the road.
